Interestingly, I see much fewer of these than of the old flame thrower variety.

There are still plenty of first gen Zafiras on the road, a bit less of the second gens and the Zafira Tourer is kind of a rarity around here.

Too bad they got rid of the one styling characteristic that made it stand out. Now it’s just one bland blob. Slap a Peugeot or Citroen badge on it and nobody would notice.

Toyota seriously paid someone to come up with that slogan. This and Chevy’s “real actors, not people” make me aggressive.

Maybe the boomerang shaped headlights were too controversial for German/European tastes. Personally, I’ve always liked the Zafira’s styling much more than the VW Bread Loaf aka Touran and the others.

Looks like a half hearted attempt to take the Toyota nose and not use quite so much black plastic

Less black plastic is usually a good thing but in the Zafira's case, meh.

I am with you on the black plastic, the new Corolla is terrible looking. It amazes how much the old model looks like my golf wagon and the new one looks like they photoshopped a prius V and called the new design done.

Some design trends are beyond me, tbh.

Let’s be honest. Opel buyers probably just want a shapeless blob.

Buyers of mpvs in general it seems.

It looks more Asian-generic to me.

You are completely right. The French are really turning things around right now. Yet, I think that it would pass as something French from 5-10 years ago. To be fair, it looks more like a predecessor than a successor.

That chrome piece brings some unfortunate flashbacks.

Point taken. Cars like the old 3008 and 5008 and the old Citroën Picassos really weren’t much more than ugly blobs. PSA malaise era crap. The same can be said about the look of similar Renaults. This new Opel would fit right in with those older French cars.

For reference, that mk2 Laguna was introduced 15 years ago. I actually like how it (the Laguna) looks, it was just so horribly unreliable.

Yep, the Mk2 Laguna was a nice looking thing at the time. Compared to a Vectra B it carried some French flair. It’s just unfortunate that Opel is stealing those styling cues a little too late, or maybe way tooooooo late.

As to the reliability of Renaults of that era, a friend of mine had a “duck butt” Megane some years ago. Some days it wouldn’t start, some days it was just fine. The Renault dealer never got any codes no matter how long they had the car. In the end they just got rid of it. Nice car when it worked. Apparently it’s just a few production years to avoid, and they fixed it mid-cycle, but it was enough to give a whole decade of Renaults and/or French cars a bad stink.
